TV vs. MTV

One of my favorite shows is "That 70s Show."It takes place in the 70s which does factor into the show a lot because of the way they dress, the things they do, etc. There is not that much of a plot to the show, there is a timeline but its usually just random stuff that they can make funny. There are also a lot of different characters that I think work great together. There is Kelso who is the ladies man and not the smartest kid, Eric who might be the main character and is nerdy and scrawny, Hyde who is the care free cool guy, Fez who is the kind of feminine foreigner, Donna who is the next door neighbor who dates Eric, and Jackie who is the princess and dates just about everyone. They all have their very distinct personalities and it all works very well. There are not really any things that repetitively show up other than evidence of 70s themes with the bright colors and stuff. I think this show is for a very large audience, you can even see this in the commercials, there are some for cars, Mcdonalds, car insurance, colleges, pretty much stuff that applies to everyone.
Comparing TV to MTV however I think is very different, TV is just made to appeal to large groups of people and make you laugh or get sucked in on what is going to happen next. They also have to advantage of being able to establish personalities with the characters, Music videos however do not have this, they may still be funny but they do not get to make characters really and have to stick with the music, it is also created by the band so they can make it a lot more just how they want it.
