TV vs. MTV

The last television show that I watched was the Teen Mom Talkshow. The authors conclude that the audience is obviously teenagers. During the show, some commercials that are shown are clips from popular teen music videos, popular clothing, Above the Influence ads, and previews for upcoming/new shows such as Jersey Shore or Awkward. All or most of the shows that are played on the MTV channel are dramas, reality shows, or any show that would only be appropriate for older teens. This part of the show Teen Mom is to give the viewers some real background information and advice, rather than what we see just by watching the show and seeing constant arguments or trouble with the kids. Most of the girls do a great job with their positions as teen moms, but I think the main point of the show is to prove that the wait to have children when we are older is worth it and more enjoyable. This show, just like most of the others, is for teen girls around the ages of 16-20. Young girls and boys would not understand most of the shows on MTV, and a few shows even warn the viewers before the show starts by showing a text that say parents should be present or "not to try this on your own" for the Rob Dyrdek and Jackass shows. I think the authors of the shows on MTV do a good job of keeping up with the audience type and what is popular. Shows like Jersey Shore and Teen Mom become very popular and well known, therefore more episodes are made. Just like television, music videos can be towards a certain audience also and the genre, characters, and language determine what the audience should be.
