1983: The Female-Address Video

The thing that stuck out to me as most interesting would be the level of correlation the article had with the videos. When summarizing one often falls into one of two traps; adding too much information leading the audience to become confused, or not having enough information causing the audience to be unable to follow the story. This article was perfect in that it was able to stay directly in the center of these two common problems allowing for a great and enthralling paper. I have never watched either of these music videos before this assignment (and I didn't actually watch them until after I read the article), so for me to still be able to follow the story line with a sense of direction I am very surprised. I feel as though "Love is a Battlefield" had more of a mature/serious form of the message from "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", however because of the lighthearted nature of Lauper's video it was easier to absorb the meaning without to much thought. The video that I am analyzing for this assignment is "Mr. Rager" by Kid Cudi. In the video/song it is repeated that the only way to face the dark depressing world is to embrace the realities as fantasies, and then to see our fantasies as realities. In essence, by deluding ourselves we can face life happy (ignorance is bliss). The video/song also can be interpreted as saying that we are very strong and resilient, but only when we look inward and find that potential we have locked in our minds. Thinking about these videos definitely helped my analysis of the video because it showed the state of mind one has to be in when looking for themes that be written as claims in the videos/songs. I will be able to use these example to further delve into the implicit themes of the video/song.
