Befriending Barbie

I definitely have more respect for Barbie collectors after reading this story. I had no clue that Barbies are the second item most collected, other than stamps. I knew people were passionate about Barbies but their touching stories behind their collection really surprised me. When I read about all the different sorts of people collecting them, I'm not going to lie, I was embarrassed for some of those men there. But as I continued through the passage, I realized it was something that each person truly was passionate about. Just because it isn't my personal hobby, I shouldn't judge them for theirs. The part that really got to me was the woman's son who died. All of her friends abandoned her, but her collector friends not only stuck by her side, but made her feel so comforted and special. Also all of the charities the Barbie collectors participate in is quite impressive. Overall, this story was a total shock. Barbies really do mean a lot to people. They symbolize their backgrounds and they tell a story about that individual. I'm glad a little doll can serve such a significant purpose for many people.
