Barbie

Before reading the essay I had never really thought much of Barbie besides the fact that it was a popular doll for little girls.  Not only with Barbie’s but also with other children’s toys, I have always thought it was weird when adults still collected them.  After reading this essay I learned that there are often reasons for the things people do that we do not know.  For example, instead of the collector collecting these dolls just to relive her childhood and still play with dolls, they each actually had a specific meaning.  Something I liked about the essay was in the introduction where we can feel that the author is going into this just as confused as I am at the fact that the collector has 3,000 Barbie dolls, showing that she is truly doing something new in order to write an essay.  The way that this will help me as a writer is that it will encourage me to go out of my comfort zone more often and explore more in order to find interesting things to write about.
