Barbie

This essay has given me a little more insight in the Barbie world. Before reading this story, I just viewed Barbie as something that I played with when I was little and it was just a toy in the form of a tall, tan, and beautiful blonde girl. I never thought that adults, even men, would become interested enough in Barbie to collect them or go to the convention. This essay proved to me that toys do not have to be only for kids, although it may be abnormal, and the things people collect can be anything from elephants to Barbie's or even stamps. I realized that everyone has different hobbies and likes, and most people have a special reason for that interest. Just like the mother who lost her son, she had an emotional connection with Barbie because of her son connecting her with her friends, who happened to be there for her during her loss. Although this essay shows the strange diversity in people's hobbies, such as collecting Barbie, the writer made a point to find out the reason for each person's collecting, or attending the convention. After reading this paper, it is obvious to me that there is much more to Barbie than what I remember when I had some of my own. There are thousands of different versions and outfits for Barbie and even large conventions for people who collect her. This essay has shown me that I need to be very discriptive in my paper and I need to pay close attention to my surroundings to allow the reader to understand what I saw, heard, felt, and so on.
