Befriending Barbie

Before I read this essay on the power of Barbies, I knew little to almost nothing about the blonde dolls. One of the few things that I did know however was that people collected them because my old neighbor used to collect them. After reading this essay I have changed my opinion from collecting Barbie dolls is a worthless habit to, collecting something can be very beneficial due to the people that you meet with the same interest. The vivid details that the author continued to give throughout the piece is what I liked most and it's what kept me entertained in this piece. Personally, I feel that the most important part of the essay is when the author has the meeting with the woman who lost her son in the church shooting. Through this meeting the author finds out that the bonds that the single mother had made with her Barbie friends outweighed the friendships she had made with other locals, and that is a very unique feeling. After reading this essay I feel that I will be more open to other opinions while I write and not such a one-sided view point. It is good for people to see more than one aspect of things so I want to try and do my best to show those sides.
