One thing I did not know about Barbie before this, was that her value drops significantly once you take her out of the box. Before this essay I never really thought about Barbie further than the fact that she is a doll my friends and I used to play with when we were young. After reading this essay I know see the kind of significance she has, and the countless lives that she has touched. From reading this essay I was able to take my personal judgement and beliefs I had about Barbie before, and just simply read the article and listen to what the Barbie collectors had to say. I was able to read and try to find the interesting parts within the essay.
I really liked the part when that lady opened up and shared about the death of her son, and how without the support and kindness of her fellow friends she had met through Barbie, she would not have been able to cope as she did. This part was also the most important, because it really made me see how big of an impact something as simple as a doll can have on a persons life.
Unfortunately since I will be spectating not participating, I won't be able to talk to people and ask them questions. Because of this I won't have the interview aspect in my essay. I did realize that description and detail are key to the reader, in order for them to feel as if they are with you.
