Befriending Barbie

When I was younger I for one, used to be obsessed with Barbies. My sister and I played Barbies all the time. I'm pretty sure my sister and I had like a million Barbies, to where you could not easily walk in our play room when we were playing. However I did  not know just how different
Barbies there were, and in that how many outfits there were.
Before I read this essay, I would have to agree with the author in thinking, collecting Barbies was a silly hobby. That it's a toy for little girls, not a collectable for adults. This essay helped me see that there is a great deal deeper reasoning why someone may collect something such as Barbies. Barbie that makes the collectors feel comforted by. I think it is probably that Barbie helps them remember when they were younger, and the world seemed a great deal simpler. I think the most important part of this story was the story hearing all the stories of why collecting Barbies effected them and why they choose to do it. Listening to these stories allowed the author to be impacted and changed her prospective on how she looks at Barbies. I think this essay will help me to really look at just how the situation impacted me.
